Many people contact us wondering what the container the ashes are returned to them from the crematorium will look like.

Here is a photo of the most common type of cremation ashes container used in Australian crematoriums. The lid is missing in this photo and is a round plug than can be removed with a flat head screw driver by popping it out. The lid can be securely put back in place if needed.

The ashes container is about the size of a shoe box and it usually at least 3/4 full for the average size adult.

The coffin, clothes and any other item placed in the furnace completely disappear. The only thing that remains is bone so the weight of the person is not relevant, only the height. As bone is made from calcium the ashes look just like sand does as it is in essance the same thing, powdered bone.
